The Raynes Park to Epsom railway line. Opened in 1859 and electrified in 1925, the year before this picture was taken. Electric trains stimulated the desire for suburban housing and the fields in this picture were to vanish under new housing developments within the space of ten years.

This is Stoneleigh Drive as it was called at the time. In 1933 when Worcester Park expanded to the house Cronks developers built "blocks of four" red roofed houses extending from the Cattle Arch towards the newly opened Stoneleigh station. The residents of Stoneleigh Drive at that time wanted name changes to separate them from the newcomers. So Stoneleigh Drive became Lynwood Drive and the continuation was to have been Meadow Road but ended up as Stoneleigh Avenue.

This is Bridge Wood. It only had six or seven years left before Sandringham Road and Bridgewood Road were built in 1933. Cuddington Recreation Ground is also partially at this spot but all was cleared for the expansion of Worcester Park.

My mistake. Holman Hunt and Milais lodged at a different Worcester Park Farm at the top of The Avenue.
