 Tedbar Tinker's Twentywell Brickworks and Twentywell Stone Company quarry, opened in 1870 - closed in 1939. Several generations of the Slater family were employed here between 1870 and 1939. My great grandfather, Joseph Slater was Master Brickmaker here until his death in an accident at the works in November 1928, aged 43.

| Round, castle like smoke vents for the tunnel below. The mounds and ridge of rough ground might suggest material from the bore was lift up the shafts and deposited on the surface.

That was a standard way of digging tunnels without a boring machine. Dig down and then outwards towards the next site, raising the spoil up the shaft. |
