  From press reports and photo (attached) I am fairly sure that the ship is the coaster Anastasi which foundered on Christmas Day 1946, while on her way from Barrow to N Ireland. The ship was built as the J&J Monks by Scotts at Bowling (on the River Clyde) in 1909. The remains are said to be still visible at low tide. CAUTION - tides and sandbanks!! |

The attached press cutting gives further info' and helps confirm - I think - that the ship is indeed the coaster Anastasi. |

I am prepared to suggest that the wreck is on the Duddon Sands just north of Walney Island near Barrow in Furness. |
