The ground was built 1927. Cheltenham Town moved in 1932, but the undeveloped nature of the ground meant a Cup tie with Blackpool in 1933/34 was switched to the better established Athletic Ground, home of the local rugby club. The attendance in excess of 10,000 remains the club record for a home game. |
