Gardner & Co Ltd, Ash Brewery, Sandwich Road, Ash, Kent. Founded 1837. Merged with Tomson & Wotton's brewery in Ramsgate in 1951 and the Ash Brewery closed in 1954. Continued production of ginger beer until 1962. Most buildings have been demolished.

The bypass, the A257 joins Sandwich Road about here, joining from the left. The curve on Sandwich Road just below this point has been made tighter since this image to join the bypass at a right angle.

Goss Hall Lane

This would seem to be the location of Ash Halt. Usually a railway line will leave its mark on the landscape for many years after it has been closed. We can see a curve of railway line in the image on the right- today there is just a hint of former track bed in a couple of places, but it is not now possible to follow the line of the East Kent Light Railway track for any distance. The track was lifted in 1954. There was a halt at Ash (opened 1916). The line passes away to the right to a junction near to Gore. To the bottom of the picture the line passes to Wingham. This line closed in 1948.
