These two bridges (known locally as "The Bridges") dominated the road junction between Clements Street and Bath Street at the early centre of the Spa town development in Leamington. The damage included the destruction of one of the main hotels and an early spa complex. The whole centre of gravity of genteel activity moved north across the River Leam where it was able to flourish free of the town's industrial infrastructure.

The north span of the bridge carried the LNWR line to Rugby and Weedon, the south span the GWR line to Paddigton.
