harborough (bottomless) pond use to control stormwater flow into the town. water collects and is stored with a controlled flow to the river via a culvert. talltails that american GIs pushed a jeep in after the war came to nothing when the pond was dredged in the mid 80s/early 90s as ground along fairfield rd and the old A6 was redeveloped for housing and a new fire station

northampton / rugby spur rugby closed in the late 60s northampton survived till the early 80s before being killed completely by harborough councils rush to destroy the track bed and bridges to the towns southern border. a heritage site survives at the northampton end of the line but disconnected from the main rail network (a short sighted/ill thought out loss for each towns tourism by both councils)
