The site of The Nest, formerly home to Crystal Palace FC and Croydon Common FC. It is clear from this image that the ground had been completely cleared and that the stand did not survive to become part of the train depot which now occupies the land. The first sheds can be seen by the embankment.

Trolley Bus - there are a number of trolley buses in this picture, identifiable by the collection gear on roof and the roads with regular poles to carry the wires.

West Croydon station was an early example of the development of the railway station, in this case with typical Southern style concrete buildings, that included space for station related shops such as newsagents and florists. The building to the north was the station while that to the south made use of the space over the tracks beside the bridge for the construction a small parade of shops facing the station. Similar arrangements were created elsewhere, for example on the bridge at Wimbledon. I well remember using this station every Boxing Day in the 1950s and 1960s on the way to visit my cousin in Sanderstead. We would catch the bus just round the corner from the station for the final part our journey from Ashtead.

This is Whitgift Middle School, not Witgift Grammar - that had moved to Haling Park in 1931. And this is central Croydon, not Broad Green - that's out of the photo to the north (left).
