Was bought by Edward Gladstone from the Duke of Abercorn in 1959 and, after 4 years of restoration, he opened it as The Mansion House Hotel |

I remember going here for a drink with my pals on Sundays when pubs closed. This was in the 1960's when there were strict licensing laws: last orders at 10pm. |

Duddingston House - - Opened by Edward Glastone as The Mansion House Hotel in 1963. It had been derelict and empty for many years and suffered extensively from Dry Rot after most of the lead on the roof had been stolen. The added photographs show the frontage and inner hall after renovation. Photos by his Son Ted Gladstone - - For further information and many more photographs of the renovation contact :- Ted.Gladstone@talktalk.net |

Duddingston village and part of Duddingston Loch are at bottom right-hand corner. The road running left to right at bottom is Duddingston Road West that continues as Duddingston Road left off picture to Portobello and crosses the A1.Lady Nairn (the poet) lived by these crossroads. JohF |
