Britannia Mill in Paynes Lane was owned by Joshua Perkins. His home was in Clay Lane, on the site of what was Stoke Ex Service Club, shortly to be the new medical centre. Perkins paid for new bells at Stoke St Michaels Church and laid the foundation stone for St Margarets church hall (institute) on Ball Hill in 1910.

To the left of Britannia Mill you can see the Binley Oak pub on the corner of Britannia Street; the building still survives today but no longer a pub.
