Note the absence of an up slow platform. Until 1960 the two lines on the east side of the station were 'Goods only' lines from north of Harpenden. But the introduction of diesel multiple units in 1960 led to the conversion of these goods lines to the present slow lines with the addition of an up slow platform.

Goods yard - Flitwick was the only station on the 'London Extension' to have its goods yard on the west side of the line.
