Nearly. It actually runs just east of the bit of the "Baguley Bottoms" woodland that still remains - I've marked it with a peg. If you like this sort of detective work, take a look at the Chester Record Office's tithe and old ordnance survey maps for Cheshire, which are all on line. This is a really useful site, as it enables you to compare the old maps with the modern map in parallel panes and see exactly what is where. |

The ever-wise internet tells me that it's an old English word for a clearing in woodland created by burning - odd that it came - presumably a lot later - to be used as the very opposite, a patch of trees surrounded by cleared land! It, and similar variants such as "Brandreth", is also found as a surname. "Brundrit" as a surname is most common in Lancashire and Cheshire, which suggests that the name in this particular form might have been a dialect word in this part of the world in early local English. |
