This park was a family favourite from its early days. The photograph dates from about 1930 and shows my grandmother with her two daughters on the steps with the bandstand in the background..

More formally known as the Castle Eden Branch. This section of line formed part of the route of the North East Railway's electrified line from Shildon to Newport, which operated between 1915 and 1934. Note the mast structures used to support the overhead power cabling. What a shame that one of the trains is not included in the photograph!
