Berwick Wood Petroleum Storage Depot. Several large underground tanks (with supporting buildings and pipelines) built during WWII to receive and fuel pumped from the docks at Avonmouth. Berwick Wood is part of a nationwide pipeline network now known as the Government Pipeline and Storage System (GPSS), which distributes aviation fuel to major airbases and commercial airports such as Heathrow and Gatwick.
