' This factory was a gear wheel/gearbox manufacturing company but originally it had been a Plater's Shed for the unlucky Newcastle Shipbuilding Co. They'd started off in 1919 & went bust in 1921. Reay Gears from Gateshead bought the sheds at the end of the 20s, then in later years it became Geo Angus Gears & finally Richardson Westgarth Transmissions (RWT). It finally closed mid 1970s & the land is now a Housing Estate. '
