These sheds & the land down to the river once belonged to the Newcastle Shipbuilding Co who started off in 1919 & went bankrupt two years later. The Sheds were bought at the end of the 1920s by a Gateshead Company called Reay & the 'Reay Gear Works' started up in Hebburn. Years later it was taken over by George Angus & Co Ltd as their Gear Division. Later it was bought by RW Transmissions who ran the gear making company until closing in the mid 1970s.
