' These sheds started life as Platers Sheds for the Newcastle Shipbuilding Co in 1919. In 1921 the Company went bankrupt. Late 1920s the Sheds became the 'Reay Gear Works' where gear wheels & gearboxes were manufactured. Later George Angus & Co took it over & later still RW Transmissions took over. RW finally closed the factory down mid 1970s.Today a Housing Estate stands on this land. '
