' Footbridge over Birstall branch.Photo shows a cut off white post remnant attached to the stone parapet. This used to carry a red diamond shaped sign with the wording "Warning-this bridge is insufficient to carry the weight of more than a heavy motor car and trailer" or words to that effect. There is a similar sign at the National Railway Museum.I believe it was only used for pedestrians and not vehicles. The area below the bridge is where I used to play as a young boy in the late 1960's and early 1970's on the former trackbed which had become a dumping ground for rubbish. '
