Hebburn folk don't know a lot about this factory known as 'The Bauxite'. As Bauxite is an aluminium ore we know it was an aluminium manufacturing plant. When they pulled out of Hebburn they left large mounds/hills of red toxic waste. When it rained the wastes turned into a mud & orangy water ran off it. If it got on your clothes it was like a Dye. Luckily the waste was fenced off but it was still a messy area. '
