' Bus park. Dozens of buses came from all over southern Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire bringing in workers then taking the outgoing shift home. At its peak before and after the second world war over 20,000 workers were employed here. When Courtaulds took over in '57 12,000 were employed, they reduced this to 7,000 in two years. When I started as an apprentice fitter turner in 1959 the total was just over 6,000. '
