' These building belonged to the Newcastle Shipbuilding Co who started up in Hebburn 1919 but unfortunately went bankrupt in 1921. The buildings & land down to the river stood empty until the end of the 1920s when a company called the 'Reay Gear Works' took over. They made gearwheels & gearboxes for industry. Later George Angus took over & later still possibly late 50s early 60s Richardson Westgarth took over calling themselves RW Transmissions. They closed down in the mid 1970s & the land is now a housing estate. '
