' The Slag Heap. This was created by Jarrow Palmer's molten slag from the Blast Furnaces being dumped for years & years. It was removed by using explosives & a Crusher which turned the slag into different grades of gravel for road making. So it was waste material that was eventually sold to help build roads & foundations. '
