' Site of the crash of Hawker Hurricane on 18th August 1940, piloted by Sgt. P K Walley, who managed to lift his crashing aircraft just enough to clear the nearby Haig homes and impacted Morden Park close to the A24. I remember the swampy area and large pond, said to have fromed from the impact crater. The site lies beneath the present college, where a plaque is located commemorating Peter Walley's bravery and self sacrifice.
