' The construction of the Wimbledon-Sutton line by the Southern Railay, opened in 1930, across the end of the Northern Line depot effectively put paid to the recently formed (1933) London Transport's plan to extend the Northern Line to Epsom on the surface, actually by agreement under the new works scheme. A modified version of the 1938 tube stock used on the Northern Line was built with larger windows extending upwards into the roof, known as the "Crystal Palace" stock presumably due to the big expanse of glass.I remember seeing a train including the Crystal Palace stock at Morden tube station in the late 1970's.
