' National Aircraft Factory No2: established in 1917 in an expanded version of Crossley Motors' partially completed aero engine factory (hence Crossley Road - originally 'High Lane' ran slightly further to the north). After the First World War Crossleys had a joint venture with Willys-Overland (later makers of the Jeep). By 1934 (which was the first time the buildings were marked on OS maps) production had ceased, and the Fairey aircraft company was about the buy the factory. Bomber production continued through the 1930s and the Second World War, and in 1945 Crossleys returned, to build buses. '
