' Carlton Street Rows of terraced housing dating from early-mid 19th century. From 1957 - 1965, all the houses and nearly all other buildings were demolished. Dolphin Square shopping centre. Construction started in April 1964. It opened in 1965 for cost of £750,000. The centre was demolished in 2013. The centre has been replaced by a new shopping centre opened in 2018. Sidmouth Cottages West was demolished c.1960. Replaced by car park, in turn replaced by multi storey in 2012. Remains of fireplaces of cottages on Sidmouth Cottages West survive at the back of the car park. '
