' This was a factory that made gear wheels & Gearboxes for industry. It was originally the Platers Sheds for the Newcastle Shipbuilding Co, who went bust after a couple of years building ships. It stood empty for some years and was bought by Reay Gear Co of Gateshead. They ran it for a while but later it became George Angus Gears, then finally RW Transmissions. It closed down mid 1970s . '
