' SA Trolleybus. Built for service in South Africa (hence the SA mark) but due to U-boat activity making sea passage precarious the government would not allow them to be exported. As LT had lost several buses due to the blitz they took advantage of this situation. However, due to the fact these buses were not standard - being 8ft wide, a few inches higher, and a ton heavier, special regulations applied to these buses. Minimum clearances of railway bridges caused the buses to be restricted to East London, based at Ilford depot, running on routes 691 - Barkingside - Barking, and 693 - Barking - Chadwell Heath. '
