Palmer's Steel Works where ore was turned into steel in the Blast Furnaces , then rolled in the Rolling Mills next door, then used for the building of the ships.
Slag from the works was taken away still hot and dumped on the Jarrow/Hebburn border and it eventually created a massive heap we called 'The Slag Heap'. Pics on my www.oldtyneside.co.uk website '
