' Remnant of the Surrey Canal, most of which had long since been bought up and replaced by the London Bridge - Croydon line (via Forest Hill). This section was still in use as part of Deptford's docks complex, although that, too, was disappearing fast by this time. The now-vanished branch line crosses the canal near the top of the image. '
