' Market Cross, Swaffham PE37 7AG Grade 1 listed - English Heritage Building ID: 460635 Market or Butter Cross, in centre of main open space of Market Place 1781-83. By Mr Wyatt (probably James). For the Earl of Orford. Limestone; lead roof. Circular on plan. 8 unfluted Roman Doric columns set on a triple-stepped plinth support a plain entablature. 2 leaded steps lead into half-round dome upon which is statue of Ceres. Dished plaster ceiling beneath dome. A Scheduled Ancient Monument, No.241. '
