' The old Slag Heap straddling the Jarrow/Hebburn border. It was created by the tipping of the molten slag from Jarrow Palmer's blast furnaces over many years. It was so large ii covered acres & acres of land & was about 100ft high at the highest point. It was gradually removed & the gravel produced was used for road building. Photo of it on my www.oldtyneside.co.uk website '
