I've checked most of the internet sources of information about windmills in Wales and I've drawn a blank.

Good luck everyone.

We shall have to transfer this shot to England now that it has been identified. There is a very good chance that it is the same date as the others in the series of 10th June 1939. This one has taught me that it might be worth playing with the country codes when identifying images. EPW061770 in the search section would have found a likeness although it might not have been in the system until recently.

I would love to say that I can see Baddesley Clinton House National Trust but although it is about a mile north of this shot I can't claim to see it. We visited Baddesley Clinton in February and turned right on our way out and took some very narrow lanes out to the A4141 and would have crossed the area covered by this photo without knowing!

I was going through some shots of Warwickshire when I recognised a photo as showing the same location as this unlocated shot. The other photo is EPW061770 Shakespeare Hall and environs, Rowington Green 1939 taken on 10th June 1939. There is a series of photos of the same location numbers EPW061770 to EPW061774

Eureka. This is one of the original unlocated photos and I now know where it is.

Is the Britain from Above team certain this shot was in Wales? The previous image WPW061768 was in or near Rhyl.

Most of the Welsh windmills were in Anglesey. This landscape looks too lush and wooded for that island. The two sites in Gwynedd can be ruled out - one a ruin near a church, the other on high ground. The brick tower mill at Bettisfield, Powys has the woods [SJ472349], but again topography not right - too many wayercourses etc. Llancayo, Monmouthshire, can be ruled out - too tall and burnt by fire in 19th c. Flints - Melin Garreg at SJ133782 - too hilly, likewise Melin Hen Dwr at SH804812. Three more in Flints, 3 in Denbighshire remain possible sites.

I think the tower will be the key to this one. If not a windmill, what else? Something mining related?
