I BELIEVE THE HAIRPIN BEND WAS CHRISTENED IN MY YOUTH IN THE1940-50 YEARS AS HANK'S BEND (DO NOT ASK ME WHY). IF I AM RIGHT IT GOES AROUND THE BOC FACTORY AND I THINK A POWER STATION NOW AND LEADS TO MORFA BEACH. I THINK THE 'DRAIN' MIGHT BE THE MAIN RAILWAY LINE

Pencoed lane and ditch

I would love to find the location of this series of photos but I don't think we are there yet. I have looked at the area around Percoed Reen west of Newport near Tredegar House and I can't match field boundaries to what is in the photos. I also have some difficulty with the sharp bend in the road which I am unable to find on local maps. Sorry but I think that more work is needed before we can identify the location.

wpw050502 is of Percoed Reen in the distance and Pencarn lane. Is this the same?

Previous statement corrected:

I think this could be "Percoed Reen" ditch crossing a the road, Pencarn lane, near Tredegar Park just west of Newport. The ditches and roads are a reasonable match, but a little worried by changes in woodland. The bend maybe not be as sharp as it looks. Mostly built over now so difficult to judge.

I don't recognise that as Ashmore (Down, village or environ). Certainly some bendy roads in the area but I can't match features to the ground.

I agree with nkingdon. I can't match this to anywhere in Ashmore. I think that we are looking for a more low lying area with drainage ditches.
