Brownhill Quarry

Originally the United Original Secession Church. It was another example of the many secessionist factions that came and went and blighted the doctrinally disputatious Scotland of the 19th century. It has long since been abandoned as a place of worship and it became a Territorial Army hall (now a Cadet Centre).

West Public Primary School

Masonic Hall. Built in 1873 as a rifle volunteers drill hall. At about the formation of the Territorial Force in 1908, the hall was sold to the masons and the new Thurso coy of the 5th Bn Seaforth Highlanders occupied the former drill hall of the Artillery Volunteers in Sinclair Street, after that unit had been disbanded.

This building was built in about 1882 as the Artillery Volunteers drill hall. By WW1 it was in use by E Coy, 5th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders (Territorial Force). It is now privately owned.

Miller Institution ( Academy). The building became the town library during the 1960s.

St Peter and the Holy Rood Episcopal Church, Sir George's Street

St Peter's & St Andrew's Church, Princess Street. Built in 1832 to a design by William Burn, the church is the centre point of the town, fronted by the town square garden and war memorial. Substantial Gothic building with buttressed walls and a tall square tower. Impressive U-plan gallery. Pipe organ, Norman & Beard 1914. Stained glass includes 'The Sower' by Oscar Paterson 1922.
