Looks like a 2-6-2 tank engine, a class V1 or V3, both much the same. |

This is the 'Ouston & Pelaw' wagonway which was where coal trucks dropped down to the Tyne coal Staiths using only gravity. Once the coal was emptied into the waiting boats, the trucks were then hauled back up to Springwell using the wire rope haulage system. More images on my www.gatesheadeast.co.uk website |
