This was originally the Midland Railway's Whitacre and Hampton branch line. It has since been dismantled. A short section of the formation has been utilised as a slip road off the A45 |

Toward Hampton along this line the Royal Train was occasionally "parked" for the night if the HM was in the area for a visit. |

Three-lane highway with middle 'suicide lane'. When were such highways introduced? And when did they go out of use - today such a road would be marked as a 2+1 highway |

Three-Lane systems were common in the 1920's and 30's on trunk roads. They lasted until the 1960's. As you can imagine, head-on crashes were regular occurrences. |

I think that there are still quite a few sections of three lane roads in use today. The Heads of the Valleys Road A465 from Skewen to Abergavenny was largely reconstructed in the 1960's as a three lane road and some sections remain three lane. In Wiltshire Black Dog Hill on the A36 Trunk Road between Beckington and Warminster is a three lane section of road. |

The brickworks had expanded noticeably by the 1960s and may still have been active by the 1980s. A recycling depot now stands on or near the site |
