The Humber cement plant started as an independent venture in 1921. It ran out of cash before construction was complete and was taken over by Blue Circle in 1923. After the third kiln was installed in 1925, the plant remained in essentially the same configuration, making about 250,000 tonnes a year, until it closed in 1981.
