Site of the old Cheadle South railway station opened by the London & North Western Railway Company in 1866 and closed to passengers on January 1st 1917. Trains had operated from Manchester via Stockport Edgeley, with some extending to Broadheath and Warrington (Bank Quay Low Level). St Mary's CE Parish Church - substantially repaired/rebuilt in the mid 16th century, but there has probably been a church on the site since at least 1200 - perhaps orginally dedicated to St Chad, first bishop of the Mercians at Lichfield. |
