  • Interesting example of 1920s industrial development. The Slough Trading Estate was on a site originally intended as a depot for the repair of army vehicles brought back from the front in 1918. Work started on the site before the crops had even been harvested. But the war ended before construction was completed.
    By 1933 more than 150 companies were based on the estate. This led to a shortage of housing for the workforce
