Ashby's cement plant allegedly continued in operation until 1926, although there is little sign of activity here. Several of the kiln roofs have fallen in, as is normal after long periods of inactivity. However, this was March, and the plant may have operated in a small way in the summer only. On the south side of Morden Wharf Road, the site of the long-closed Hollick's plant was used by Blue Circle as a barge depot.
