The refrigerated cargo liner SS Manistee under construction. She was built for Messrs Elders & Fyffes for the fruit trade between the West Indies, Central America and Europe, and was launched on 28th October 1920 by Miss Elizabeth Stockley, daughter of Arthur Henry Stockley, one of the company's founders. In war service as an auxiliary cruiser, Manistee was lost with all hands when she was hit twice by torpedoes fired by U-107 in the North Atlantic on 23rd-24th February 1941 after completing escort duties with convoy OB-288
