Mount Felix, at Walton-on-Thames. It was used as a hospital for New Zealand soldiers during the 1914-18 war. This is why we now have New Zealand Avenue cutting through Ashley Park, leading to the Kiwi pub. Mount Felix burnt down in the 1960s.

Thanks Thamesweb you are quite right. We've revisited this image and can confirm that it looks to be a photo of Walton Bridge at Shepperton/Walton-on-Thames. The records have been updated here and the website will be updated in due course. Thanks for the feedback and apologies for the error.

Sorry, don't agree that it is Albert Bridge, Datchet, near Windsor. The style is wrong for both bridges, as are the series of arches (and nearby features). Perhaps Wallingford is actually right after all? Thamesweb (Editor Windsor Website and Forum)

Hi Sue,

That's probably because in the Aerofilms Register this photo was marked down as Wallingford. The original Register entry for English images in the Collection is preserved in the English Heritage catalogue, so that we can avoid handling the fragile books if we need to go back to check the hand-written entries.

During the cataloguing process we have correctly located the image to the river at Datchet, so a map search or place name search (in the Advanced Search option) for Wallingford should be more precise.

Yours, Katy

This photo always comes up in a 'Wallingford' search but has nothing to do with the town.
