Bigger tree on corner and up east side visible on 1945 aerial photo, remember bottom half of wood has been felled by 1953

Dear TomRobin and Class31,

Thank you very much for your suggestions and help in locating this image. I've had a look at your suggested location and I agree that it is correct. I've just catalogued the three 'unlocated' air balloon images and you should see a change to the website shortly.

The original register data described this image as: "Free Balloon between St Neots & Huntingdon" - quite a large area! So a very good identification from you in my opinion.

Many thanks for your continued support,

Alexander

1945 aerial view. By 1953 the bottom half of the wood has gone, leaving the remainder north of the track/drain on the right. The bare corner patch and rows of trees can be matched

I have now changed my mind to a small plantation or orchard 1 mile further east.

The rows of trees and barren patches are clearly visible.

Shadows on EAW050872 are indistinct, but sun appears to be in the SE so fits with orientation of this wood

I think this probably the scrub wood strip about 1 mile NNE of Hartford, the track of the balloon is aligned with Great Paxton. Shadows suggest mid morning, will check other images.

EAW050873 is of Great Paxton in Cambridgeshire and this is likely to be close but I can't locate it and it's neighbours.
