Could this be the Tebury branch from Kemble?

Another railway or a major road?

The other tunnel mouth?

The entrance to a railway tunnel. This could well be the breakthrough to locating these three images. Smiley face.

This view is looking west from the village of Littlebury near Saffron Walden.

Spent another half an hour or so on this series of photos largely looking at railway tunnels from Yorkshire to Gloucestershire but with no success. Good luck to anyone who is searching.

This is not Kemble, see comments below.

Pretty sure it's Kemble, and that isn't the Tetbury branch. The image is Google Earth, looking from a similar angle, and the curve I thought was the railway was just a hedge line that is still there. The Tetbury branch is just out of sight to the right. The image is from Google Earth.

Bugger. Editing this removed the image for some arcane reason: go to 51°40'26.20" N 2°00'45.91" W and look about due west, and you'll see that curvy hedgeline still there.

I've had a good look at these photos and the suggestion that this might be Kemble. I have to say that a point in Kemble's favour might be the railway tunnel which is found to the south of the station. I also have to say that on closer examination Kemble does not stand up, nothing matches. We all want to find the location of this photo. I have spent several hours looking at most railway tunnels south and east of a line from the Severn to The Wash and found nothing. This is not Kemble but I still think we will locate this photo somewhere in Southern England or the South Midlands. Good hunting everyone and Merry Xmas to all our readers.

I've a feeling it might be Kemble, but there are a couple of problems: the roads must have changed quite a lot, and although that curve I've pinned looks like the curve of the Tetbury branch viewed from this angle, I can see neither track nor telegraph poles.

I've noticed today that there is a railway tunnel entrance in this photo which might help locating this image. I've also looked at loads of tunnels today and I can't find the location. I've put it up as a favourite in the hope that someone might provide the answer. Good hunting.

Probably somewhere in eastern England. We can see a lot of country in this series of three photos but we still don't know where they were taken.

All the aircraft seem to have the same tail markings, so all from the same squadron? Large formations such as this would have been unusual even by 1952 so possibly a Sqn 'event' - disbandment, return to USA or something similar maybe? Identifying the home base for the squadron might help?
