Fuel Storage tanks Several large underground tanks (with supporting buildings and pipelines) built during WWII to receive and fuel pumped from the docks at Avonmouth. Berwick Wood is part of a nationwide pipeline network now known as the Government Pipeline and Storage System (GPSS), which distributes aviation fuel to major airbases and commercial airports such as Heathrow and Gatwick.
