There was a Firing Range on the right hand side of the picture, not shown on the picture, that the soldiers practiced on every day. This ran parallel to the railway tracks. Delery Drive was on the other side of the railway tacks.

Derek Avenue ran parallel to Granny's Brook

Granny's Brook then travelled along Orford Road to Padgate Brook. There was a Tunnel that went under the railway and the Brook came out the other side of the railway.

This is what I remember as the Lancashire Education Committe Teacher Training Collage at Padgate. The Theatre and some of the buildings still exist. Beyond the end of Fearnhead Lane (foreground) used to be an army camp and as you look at the photo it was East to Warrington, North to Risley, Culcheth, Leigh and West to Winwick. Also Crab Lane at the top of the photo was moved to allow the M6 to be built.

This appears to be what is now Cinnamon Brow with Padgate at the very top of the photo.
