Hi Dave,

Thanks for spending time on this image to get the location. We'll update the catalogue and post the new data here in due course. The original Aerofilms Ltd Register entry doesn't identify the autogiro I'm afraid.

Well done Dave Brunt for getting this one. It was further from Epsom Downs than I expected. I can't see any 406 Kingston to Redhill buses in the photo!

Would seem likely that this might have been taken somewhere in the vicinity of Epsom Downs on Derby Day, as were the preceding and following shots. The previous shot EPW038134 also features this autogyro, reg G-ABUD.

What an extraordinary plane. G-ABU?, not G-ABUB or G-ABUS. I think it was in shot below for about half a second in http://www.britishpathe.com/video/air-display-biplane-stunting-air-shots/query/01283300

It wd seem that these registrations were issued in 1932.

It looks like G-ABUC, Cierva C19, part of Alan Cobham's Flying Circus, 1932-1935

Most Likely G-ABUC or G-ABUG both of which were Cierva C19 MK4s

G-ABUC was based at Shoreham, and G-ABUG Feltham.

Well not quite.

AVRO 620 / Cierva 19 Mk.IVP [gyro]

Several in the indicated registration range.

It's a Pitcairn Autogiro: http://glover320.blogspot.co.uk/2011/06/1932-helicopter-right-wrong-its.html
