War Memorial - topped by a tall flag pole, 25 metres high - a ship's mast, made in Hull. The foot of the flag pole is surrounded by a bronze base and standing around the base are the figures of four ordinary soldiers with their heads bowed. The base shows emblems of local regiments as well as the Navy, Merchant Navy, Army and Air Force, and Sheffield's coat of arms. The bronze was cast by the Parlanti Foundry of London.

This shows Barkers Pool before the City Hall was built, below the War Memorial. The large building above the W.M. is the Albert Hall, burnt down about 1937/8. The Regent Cinema, later the Gaumont was built across the side road from the Albert Hall. This is now a dept store.
