Kingston upon Thames War Memorial

Although only a simple slab & not visible in this photo, it is the highest memorial in England and probably Britain.

This is a small memorial tucked away near the church entrance. The new octagonal base has memorial slabs on each face.

This is rather an usual shape of memorial.

N.B. The bronzes of The Quadriga on the Wellington Arch, the Byron Memorial, and the Wellington Memorial were also cast at Thames Ditton.

Also: The nearby Machine Gun Corps memorial was originally erected in 1925 next to Grosvenor Place (probably on image). It was dismantled shortly afterward [sic] due to roadwork, and was only rededicated in the central section of Hyde Park Corner in 1963. Original Tonbridge WW1 War Memorial (look at the shadow) sited opposite the church in a road junction, this was replaced by a roundabout in the 1950's. Another very clear image which was unveiled in November 1904.

There are plans to move the memorial from the car park outside the magistrates court to the graveyard of St. Eustachius.

Although not very clear in this image, the memorial base has been changed and has the names of local soldiers killed on both World Wars. Being on a busy road it is often overlooked.

This large monument is not only a memorial to Lieutenant Nicholson who died in WW1, but also to the men of Leek who died in both world wars.

Although a simple memorial it is in a prominent position to mark those that lost their lives from a small island.

One of the most ambitious memorials in the area, this monuement consists of a tall, free standing cenotaph set in paving and backed by a curved and inscribed stone wall which forms the boundary of a small park to the rear.

The iconic cenotaph, designed by Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyens, upon which so many other memorials are based.

This is unusual as it incorporates a clock and has been moved along the High Street.

The figure on this memorial at first sight looks like a male crusader but is in fact a female figure.

This memorial opposite Kempston Barracks is unusual as it is a Moorish style of building with an obelisk on either side.

The setting for these memorials is slightly more unusual as they are in the base of Bamburgh Castle.

The Boer War Memorial is marked although not that visible and there are more memorials inside St Paul's church.

The memorials relevant to this photo are not visible as they are now in the STEAM Museum building, but worthy of inclusion as they are memorials to GWR workers.

Although not that visible in this photo, unless you know the area, it is a classic style of memorial.
